Al
Petteway
Workshop
|
![]() |
3pm (promptly) – 5 on Saturday, April 24, 2004
The Petteway/White workshop will offer, among other things, the opportunity to learn techniques prevalent in contemporary celtic guitar music. Al and Amy will focus on the execution of some of their trademark techniques as well as exploring two songs (to be handed out) that participants will be able to take with them and add to their repertoire. This is a unique opportunity to learn from two very “in demand” artists in a hands on, collegial atmosphere.
The workshop will focus on techniques and will use the DADGAD tuning. Some tablature will be handed out at the workshop but the focus will be on listening to the sound coming from one's instrument. As Al says, " I like my students to use tab as a memory aid not as part of the performing experience."
The workshop is open to guitarists of all levels. You may bring (optional): tape recorder, small video camera, guitar, pen & paper. The workshop will run for 2 hours beginning promptly at 3pm on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church located at 22331 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale 3 blocks south of 9 mile on west side of Woodward.
The cost of the workshop is $40. Due to the overwhelming response to previous workshops and recognizing the need that each student have a good seat and receive some individual attention, we are limiting the class to 15 students.
Students are encouraged to sign up on the website ASAP with first preference given to Michigan Fingerstyle Guitar Society members until one week before the concert.
Don’t miss this opportunity to spend some quality time with two of the world’s most reknown artists in the fingerstyle genre. We hope to see you there!

FOUR "Wammies" by the Washington Area Music Association including the

exclusively with his wife, Amy White. He records and teaches private lessons in
their home studio in Takoma Park, MD and is the Guitar Week coordinator for the

Petteway and Amy White are not only really and truly in love with each other -
an energy that ricochets between them during their performances - they're also
in love with creating their caffeinated, jazz-spiked acoustic brew."
