 Ed Gerhard Fingerstyle Workshop

Noon (promptly) – 4pm on Sunday, October 12, 2003

We are very pleased to announce a 4-hour workshop on Fingerstyle Arranging and Composition with Ed Gerhard.  This is a unique opportunity for in depth study with this great artist.

The focus will be on techniques and methods for creating your own compositions or arrangements.  If you already create your own fingerstyle pieces you will learn new angles from a true professional.  If you’ve never explored composing or arranging this may start you down a rewarding path.

Attendees are invited, but not required, to bring an arrangement, either complete or incomplete to the workshop.  Individual attention and analysis of your own tune(s) will be a part of the workshop.

Unlike our usual 2-hour workshops, Ed will be able to spend a lot of time on the fine points of fingerstyle guitar.  We will focus on many aspects of arranging a piece of music, including melody, harmony, tone, dynamics, etc. This workshop is truly designed for guitarists of all levels and ability.  If you compose or arrange your own music or even if you don’t, your creativity and ability will be sparked!

This is what Ed has to say about the workshop:

"In this workshop we'll focus on arranging music for the guitar. We'll discuss and demonstrate the many choices we have as players. Subjects like melody, harmony, tone and dynamics will be addressed and there will be plenty of individual attention. I tailor my approach to teaching so that players of all levels of ability will come away with a deeper understanding of music as well as guitar technique."

The workshop is $75 and will start PROMPTLY at noon. Refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited to 15 participants so act fast to reserve a spot!

The workshop is open to guitarists of all levels. You may bring (optional): tape recorder, small video camera, guitar, pen & paper. The workshop will run for 4 hours beginning promptly at noon on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at the Acoustic Avenue Coffee House in the lower level (located within the First United Methodist Church) which is located at 22331 Woodward Avenue in Ferndale 3 blocks south of 9 mile on west side of Woodward.

The cost of the workshop is $75. Due to the overwhelming response to previous workshops and recognizing the need that each student have a good seat and receive some individual attention, we are limiting the class to 15 students.

Students are encouraged to sign up on the website ASAP with first preference given to Michigan Fingerstyle Guitar Society members until one week before the concert.

As with all our workshops, this is a unique opportunity to learn from the best in a hands on, collegial atmosphere. Don’t miss this opportunity to spend some quality time with one of the world’s most in demand fingerstyle artists! We hope to see you there!
